THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO A BRUINS GOALIE. In 1939, Bruins goalie Frank Brimsek was carrying Boston through the Stanley Cup Final. No mask. No water breaks. No backups warming up. Mid-game at the old Boston Garden, after another brutal barrage of shots, Brimsek suddenly collapsed in his crease. No hit. No whistle. He just went down. Players froze. Fans went silent. Some thought he was dead. Brimsek had fainted from pure exhaustion and dehydration after emptying everything he had into the series.
