Did you know the world’s first coal-fired power station was in Holborn? 💡 The Edison Electric Light Station was established at 57 Holborn Viaduct in 1882 and ran into 1886. The Viaduct, which had opened in 1869, was picked because it had culverts running through it, meaning that the streets did not have to be dug up for cables. The building was sadly lost in the Blitz and the large modern office block, 60 Holborn Viaduct, occupies the site today. There is a link in my bio for the full history.
