This day in classic rock history, December 9th 1980: John Lennon is shot and killed outside his New York City apartment building, The Dakota. Mark David Chapman, a former mental patient who had earlier that day asked for and received Lennon's autograph, was arrested and convicted for the killing. He's still in prison to this day. Chapman's been eligible for parole 14 times, but he's been denied every time so far. His next parole hearing is in 2027. (video courtesy of CBS News) | 96.9 The Eagle
