More than 50 universities across the United States, including Washington University in St. Louis, are under federal investigation for alleged racial discrimination as part of President Donald Trump's administration's broader efforts to roll back diversity,

The schools under scrutiny include dozens of state schools, including the University of Washington, and two Ivy Leagues. A number of private schools are also being targeted.

The U.S. Department of Education on Friday said its office for civil rights is investigating 45 universities, citing complaints that the schools engaged with a program that set eligibility based on race.
