The Huthis, who say their action is in solidarity with the Palestinians, have themselves seen their positions in Yemen hit by US, Israeli and sometimes British air strikes. On Thursday, leader Abdulmalik al-Huthi in a televised address threatened to keep up their attacks if Israel does not respect the ceasefire with Hamas.

Israel's military said early Tuesday it had tried several times to shoot down a missile fired from Yemen which sent sirens blaring across the centre of the country.
After multiple air raids targeted Yemen's Sanaa airport in December 2024, which the Iran-backed Huthi rebels blamed on Israel, a photo of smoke billowing from a runway ricocheted worldwide in social media posts that falsely depicted it as showing the recent attack.
Palestinians and family members of hostages who were killed in captivity have been imploring the Israeli government and world leaders for a ceasefire deal.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will go into effect at 0630 GMT on Sunday, mediator Qatar said. The ceasefire will pause the fighting after 15 months of war and see the release of dozens of hostages held by the militants in the Gaza Strip and hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.
The Iran-backed Houthis have been firing projectiles at Israel and at vessels on the crucial Red Sea shipping corridor in what they claim is solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
