A massive search and rescue mission is underway after dozens of workers became trapped or missing after a massive avalanche in India on Wednesday.
Following the avalanche, a massive rescue operation has been launched. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been deployed to the site.
At the time of the avalanche on Friday, the village was deserted as all the villagers were in Gopeshwar, the district headquarters, nearly 100 km from Mana.
Thirty-three of a total of 55 BRO workers trapped under an avalanche in the high-altitude village of Mana in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district have been rescued, with concerns over the safety of the remaining 22 mounting as night fell on the snowbound slopes and the rescue efforts came to a temporary halt.
