Social Security beneficiaries who were mistakenly overpaid will now have 50% of their monthly check withheld until all the money has been repaid.

The Social Security Administration said it will now seek to recoup less money from beneficiaries. Advocates say the revised policy is still burdensome.

The agency previously announced it would collect overpayments by withholding up to 100% of monthly benefits until the debt was settled.
