As the Trump administration sows chaos with a crushing fuel blockade of Cuba, a general told Congress that the military will “set up a camp” at Guantánamo Bay to detain those who try to flee the humanitarian crisis inflicted by the United States.

The commander of the U.S. Southern Command, Francis Donovan, said forces are carrying out an "actual campaign" against cartels in the region, saying strikes against alleged drug vessels are "just a small part of that.

Operation Southern Spear escalated on March 19 when SOUTHCOM, acting under Gen. Francis L. Donovan, carried out a lethal strike on a low-profile vessel in the Eastern Pacific that it said was being used in narco-trafficking operations.

The operations inside Ecuador are targeting “narco-terrorist” groups that are designated terrorist organizations, U.S. Southern Command said.
