Trump doubled down this week on his vows to empty Gaza permanently of its more than 2 million Palestinians, saying they would not be allowed to return and suggesting at one point he might force Egypt and Jordan to take them in by threatening to cut off U.S. aid.

We know Trump is capable of pressuring Netanyahu. He was instrumental in making the current ceasefire in Gaza come about. Far more intense pressure will be needed to secure a Palestinian state, but the reward would be far greater as well. And Trump would indeed enshrine himself in history as a deal maker par excellence.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday said that he is committed to buying and owning Gaza, but could give sections of the land to other states in the Middle East to help in the rebuilding effort. Trump made his remarks to reporters aboard Air Force One.
