Chinese animated feature Ne Zha 2 has flown past $900m (RMB6.48bn) at the local box office to become the country’s biggest film of all time. After opening on January 29, the first day of Chinese New Year, the fantasy adventure feature took only eight days to reach $823.45m (RMB6bn) on February 6.

Ne Zha 2' has ascended to the pinnacle of the Chinese box office, becoming the highest-grossing film in the country's history.

Ne Zha 2 has collected ¥5.8bn (£640m) at the box office so far. In the first week alone, the film made ¥4.84bn (£534m), setting the record for the most money made by a single film in the new year period, which runs from 28 January to 12 February.

The film tech company rode the China Lunar New Year ticket sales hitting its own record high of $1.3 billion on the strength of local releases like 'Ne Zha 2.'
