WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — In a visit to Purdue University Wednesday, July 16, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon praised Indiana for putting parents in the driver's seat when it comes to their kids' education.

McMahon’s comments came two days after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a lower court’s order that blocked a plan to fire roughly 1,400 people from the U.S. Department of Education. President Donald Trump has vowed to shut down the department for good during his term, a longtime Republican goal, and the plan would effectively cripple the agency.

A lawsuit filed Monday against Trump, Education Secretary Linda McMahon, and Office of Budgement Management Director Russell Vought claimed that the Trump administration had “caused chaos” for K-12 school districts by refusing to distribute funding to six long-standing grant programs.
