Pope Francis suffered two episodes of acute respiratory failure Monday, the Vatican said, a fresh setback in the worst health crisis of his papacy.

Pope Francis on Monday suffered two attacks of "acute respiratory insufficiency," the Vatican said, as the 88-year-old continues his health fight.

The pontiff had no fever and no signs of new infection, and continued his respiratory therapy, the Vatican said.
